It is a web teleprompter: it runs in the browser with no sign-up and no installation, so it works the same at a desk or on a beamsplitter rig. Content creators, YouTubers, students, teachers and anyone who has to speak to camera can use it as a free speech prompter.
How to Use This Online Teleprompter
Paste your script into the box and set the pace, either as words per minute or as a total duration.
Filling in one calculates the other based on the script length, and the resulting running time is shown next to the preview.
Font size and text width are set separately and have no effect on the timing.
Press play, and the prompter takes over the screen.
- Spacebar pauses and resumes.
- Mouse wheel moves through the script and carries on from wherever you stop. If you were paused, a button appears to take you back to the line you were on.
- Arrow keys move up and down through the script, and keep moving for as long as you hold one down.
- Page Up and Page Down move by a line a press, so a presentation clicker can be used as a remote.
- R restarts from the top.
- Esc closes the prompter.
The script and the settings are stored in your browser and restored on your next visit. Nothing is sent to a server. The site can be installed from the browser and used offline.

Is this online teleprompter free?
Yes. It is free with no account and no paid tier, and there is no limit on script length or recording time.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It is a web teleprompter and runs in the browser. You can optionally install it from the browser as an app, which is what lets it run offline.
Does the teleprompter work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded on a device it keeps working with no connection, so it is usable on location or in a studio without Wi-Fi.
Can I use it with a teleprompter mirror or beamsplitter?
Yes. Mirror mode flips the text left to right, or top to bottom, so it reads correctly through the glass of a beamsplitter rig. Only the text is flipped: the controls sit on top of it and stay readable.
How many words per minute should a teleprompter scroll at?
Around 130 to 150 words per minute is a normal speaking pace for video. Slow down to 110 to 130 for a presentation or a technical explanation. If the script has to fit a fixed slot, enter the duration instead and the words per minute are worked out for you.
Is my script uploaded anywhere?
No. The script and the settings are kept in your browser's local storage, on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account to sign in to.
Why I Built My Own Free Teleprompter
I had a set of video lessons to record, and I wanted something to read from while I recorded them, so I went through the free teleprompters that were around at the time. They were all fine, but, to my surprise, not one of them got all the basics right. Half the time the thing I wanted was there but done carelessly, and the rest of the time it simply wasn't there. After a while, it seemed quicker to write my own than to keep working around theirs.
Once the videos were done, I took a domain and put it online for free, since I figured I couldn't be the only one who needed a tool like this. It's the same version I use. I update it whenever I feel like it.
